Support at Altitude: Tigers Eye Takes on Everest Base Camp and Kilimanjaro

Sports bras for climbing and trekking: Tigers Eye takes on Kilimanjaro and the Everest Base Camp

Mount Everest and Kilimanjaro are worlds apart, but the challenges are real, sweaty, and unforgiving. Despite all that, two women trusted Tigers Eye through all of it. Keep on reading to find out just how tough these mountains are to climb, and what made these women choose Tigers Eye for this challenge.

Meet the Climbers

Meet Louise and Sara – the two women who put the Tigers Eye bra through the toughest altitude test. Louise had climbed Kilimanjaro while Sara trekked to Everest Base Camp. Two incredible, once-in-a-lifetime adventures which come with great risk and therefore require specialised kit.

“[I] was looking for kit that would work hard for the trip. Our allowance was limited as it had to be carried by porters, so anything I took had to work hard.” - Sara

All about The Mountains

Mount Everest is the tallest mountain in the world, standing at 8,848m, while Kilimanjaro is the tallest free-standing mountain at 5,895m. The difference? Mount Everest is a peak part of the Great Himalayan mountain range (see below), while Kilimanjaro stands alone.

Mount Everest has different base camps at different altitudes which gives people the opportunity to trek according to their abilities – see the map below.

The Everest Base Camp and Kilimanjaro are at a similar height over sea level – 5,375m and 5,895m – however they are in different parts of the world which also means different climate and challenges.

Despite the difference, one thing that Sara and Louise can agree upon, is that they both needed proper gear to stand up to the tallest mountains they have ever climbed.

“The fact that [the bra] could remain fresh for 2 weeks caught my attention as I knew I would have limited access to washing facilities.

The Tigers Eye bras were the only ones I took to Everest. I travelled in them, slept in them and walked 10 hours a day in them. They remained fresh and comfortable for the whole 3 weeks. [They were] an integral part of my kit.” - Sara

You heard that right – the Ultimate Bra was perfect for this mission. Thanks to the antibacterial properties, the bra can stay fresh even when worn 24/7. The silver-infused fabric kills bacteria, so it will remain odour-free and safe on the skin.

Another feature that made the Tigers Eye bras perfect for climbing mountains, are the wide and padded shoulder straps. Originally incorporated for women in the military and emergency services to comfortably wear under pounds of heavy body armour and equipment, this feature has proven ideal for hiking with heavy backpacks.

“There was so much to think about up there, but never my bra. That’s when you know it’s the right one. said Louise, a UK Military Veteran.

She knows a thing or two about the importance of proper gear and how it impacts missions and goals. She goes on to say that at the end of her trek the rest of her gear ended up in a trash bag due to the smells, but not her Tigers Eye, that was the only piece of her gear that was still fresh for the journey home.

At Tigers Eye, we believe that’s how sports bras should be made: supportive and so comfortable that you can sleep in them for a week at the top of a mountain, without worrying about hygiene and having to carrying unnecessary spare bras.

If you have an adventure coming up and need gear that won’t let you or your breasts down, Tigers Eye is here to support you no matter how intense you choose to live.
